TECHNOLOGY IN THE MARGINS
FIND connects young adults with educators and employers specializing in coding and design. This networking and education program gives the youth a foundation that they can build from while gaining valuable real world experience. We call this Technology in the Margins; building on the strengths and creativity of at-risk youth, creating a community of support while increasing the opportunity for jobs, continued education, certification and entrepreneurship.
Each young adult will leave the program with knowledge in graphic design and coding that will help them develop a portfolio of work which they can use to further their career/education. In addition, they will receive school credit and a stipend for their work.
Young Adult CAREER READINESS
Duration: 2 Years
Next Cohort: August 2019
Location: Salt Lake & Price
Each semester we recruit 50 young adults to participate in the FIND program. We’ll assess their literacy, basic education, interpersonal skills, criminal background and we’ll work out court compliance and work-release credit where applicable.
Technology Pathways // Junior Year
We begin the program with a focus on developing technical skills using Adobe Creative Cloud (CC), coding software, financial literacy, project literacy, public speaking, and team building. Students will complete a basic design module in Adobe CC as well as a 12-month success plan.
Bonus: Field trips!
During this year, the program also focuses on personal and professional development through career exploration, civic engagement, resume & portfolio building, presenting to clients and networking.
Earn and Learn // Senior Year
Once the students gain a firm grasp on their technical skills, we turn our focus to setting goals, getting certified, working with startup incubators and gaining apprenticeships.
Students will end this phase of the program with a professional portfolio and capstone project which will be showcased by the students to local professionals at an end of year review to demonstrate their proficiency in Adobe CC.
After completing the official FIND program, youth will receive guidance for scholarship application, career placement and startup incubation.
